If you’re a van owner, you know that choosing the right window cover to fit your build can be tricky. Choosing the wrong cover can lead to poor fit, light and insulation gaps, and frustration. In this guide, we’ll help you determine which sliding door window cover is right for you.
Does Window Type / Brand Matter?
Not really – it’s all about the trim! So whether you have a factory window or an after market window (like the AM Auto Slider or Van Windows Direct Slider), our covers will work as long as you select the right trim type.
What is Window Trim?
Window trim refers to the materials or surfaces that surround your window. Identifying your trim type is the first step in finding the right cover for your van.
Step 1) Identify Your Van’s Sliding Door Trim
Different van models have different trim styles, which affect compatibility:
Bare Metal Trim: Exposed metal around the window, like the photo below.
Note: Sometimes vans have tweed or fabric upholstery over the metal to give the door a more finished look. As long as it’s just fabric on top of the metal, our bare metal sliding door cover will still work. A quick way to check is with a simple magnet test—if a regular household magnet sticks, ours will too (ours are much stronger)!
Full Factory Plastic Trim: Thicker plastic surrounding the window, typically found in 15-passenger Ford Transit vans with multiple rows of seats. The visible glass area is smaller in these vans than bare metal trim.

Custom Trim: Last but not least, if you have custom trim around your van (where neither the aluminum frame around the window nor the bare metal is visible), then our window covers will not be compatible with your van.

Step 2) Pick Your Cover
Now that you know your window’s trim type, you’re ready to choose the perfect window cover. Of course, always buy the window cover specific to your van’s model:
Shop Mercedes Sprinter
Compatible with Bare Metal trim.
Shop Ford Transit

Shop Ram Promaster

Class B RVs: Note, our window covers are not compatible with Class B RVs.
